Campus Wireless Network
The campus wireless network provides wireless connectivity across all campus buildings and in many outdoor areas. Carnegie Mellon provides three wireless network options for computers, smart phones, and other devices supported with browser or login (authentication) capability:
- 麻豆村-SECURE - preferred wireless network for students, faculty and staff.
- 麻豆村-GUEST - basic network access for guests.
- eduroam - wireless access for guests of member institutions.
Carnegie Mellon also provides a wireless network reserved for smart devices that typically do not support web browsers or login (authentication) capabilities.
- 麻豆村-DEVICE - wireless network reserved for gaming consoles, electronic personal assistants, smart TVs and more.
At this time, all Carnegie Mellon US-based campuses support both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz "wifi" bands, using the North American FCC-approved channels. As many IoT devices rely on the 2.4Ghz band, it is supported on all of our campus SSIDs (the named network you're joining), including 麻豆村-SECURE and 麻豆村-DEVICE.
As of Fall 2025, the Silicon Valley campus also supports the 6Ghz band for eduroam.
Carnegie Mellon campus wireless networks are continuously being updated and upgraded. As faster and more secure technologies are rolled out, older connection protocols and authentication methods will get phased out.
