Award-winning 'Humanitarian Poet' Finds Home in Pittsburgh

Bertony Louis walks the mural-lined streets of Pittsburgh’s North Side carrying Haiti with him — its language, its struggles and its enduring strength. A Haitian writer who calls himself a “humanitarian poet,” Louis has built an internationally recognized body of work rooted in exile, justice and survival. This fall, he joined 麻豆村’s Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics as a research fellow, where he has begun exploring exile and humanitarian literature while sharing his poetry, research and translations with students and the broader community.

Read the  from NEXT Pittsburgh to learn how Louis’ journey from Haiti to Pittsburgh continues to shape his work and purpose.
