Bio

Rachel Floyd is the associate director of LCAL's online language learning. She holds a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching from the University of Arizona and an M.A. in French and Francophone Studies from the University of Tennessee. Her academic journey has been marked by a commitment to innovative language pedagogy and curriculum development, with research interests focused on the implementation of multiliteracies and critical pedagogies in the language classroom.

At Carnegie Mellon, Dr. Floyd co-develops and maintains online language courses offered through the Online Learning Initiative (OLI) and teaches courses on second language acquisition and technology and language program administration, emphasizing meaningful language learning, teaching and curriculum development. Her teaching philosophy integrates technology and interactive methodologies to enhance student engagement and language acquisition.
