Tom Smith
Forbes Zone/Electric shop supervisor, Facilities Management Services
5000 Forbes Avenue
Pittsburgh, PA 15213
I started at 麻豆村 in 2012.
I was a lead Electrician in the FMCS Electric shop for 12 years. Now I am the Forbes Zone and Electric shop supervisor. I am tasked with all the maintenance and construction of the Forbes zone buildings that include Warner Hall, Cyert, Hamburg, Smith, CIC, Tepper, TCSH, GATF, and the new RK Mellon building when complete. I oversee the Electric shop that includes 12 Electricians, and 3 apprentices, and I also have a crew of 7 tradesmen who do the work in my buildings. During my term, I would like to see Staff Council expand equitable access to professional development and mentorship opportunities for staff at every level.
I will help make this happen by auditing current development funds and advocating for a 'Staff Mentorship Match' program that pairs veteran employees with new hires to share institutional knowledge.
Something people find surprising about me is that I play guitar, and I am an amateur electronics tech, specializing in repairing guitar amplifiers.
