Allergy Injections at University Health Services

University Health Services (UHS) would be happy to administer your allergy injections under the direction of your allergist. UHS is able to accommodate patients who need three or less injections and no more often than weekly. Once you complete the following steps, you may begin receiving injections at UHS:
  1. Please download the Allergy Information Request Letter and Form. This form will need to be completed by your allergist and sent to UHS along with your allergy medical records.  You may have it faxed directly, or you may upload it through Health Connect.
  2. Once we receive this completed paperwork, please call UHS and schedule an appointment for an allergy injection physical with one of our clinicians. You will need an annual allergy visit to check in with a provider at UHS for ongoing treatment.
  3. Once this appointment is completed, you may schedule your allergy injections at UHS. Injections are administered on a scheduled basis.  You will also need to sign the Allergy Injection Consent at that first visit and annually.
  4. Your prescribing allergist will determine your treatment schedule and frequency of your allergy injections.
  5. Please remember to take an anti-histamine (loratadine or cetirizine) an hour before your appointment if your allergist requires you to pre-medicate before allergy injections.
  6. Following your injection, we require that you wait 30 minutes in our office. This is for your safety and required by most allergists.
  7. At the end of your time at 麻豆村,  you are responsible for picking up your allergy serum.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact our office at 412-268-2157, option 2.

During Vists to the UHS Allergy Clinic

Please check in at the i-Pad in the UHS waiting room.

Please reschedule your allergy injection visits if you have any of the following:

  • Fever or extended illness for any reason
  • Wheezing, shortness of breath, or having an exacerbation (flare) of asthma symptoms
  • Taking a Beta-Blocker or a drug containing a Beta Blocker, which is a medication used to treat irregular heartbeats, headaches, eye problems or high blood pressure

If you have not taken an anti-histamine (loratadine or cetirizine) to pre-medicate before your appointment if required by your allergist, we will reschedule your appointment.

After Receiving Your Injection

You must wait 30 minutes and have the injection site checked by the nurse for any reactions before leaving UHS.

Avoid rubbing or scratching the arm in which you received the injection.

Avoid vigorous exercise 2 hours before and after injections, such as jogging, vigorous walking, gym workouts.

Although you may not experience any local reaction within the 30 minutes after the injection, it is possible to react later in the day.  If a local reaction occurs:

  • Take an antihistamine ( loratidine, cetirizine, fexofenadine).
  • Record the time and size of the reaction and how long it lasts. Report this to the nurse before you receive the next injection.
  • If the symptoms worsen, return to UHS or go to the nearest emergency department
