Giving to the Children's School

Your generosity makes an impact on the life of a child. Gifts to the Children's School can be designated to support our general fund or be directed to scholarships.

Individual Giving

Make a secure online gift using Carnegie Mellon's Office of Annual Giving webpage:

general fund supports all aspects of our mission. Past donations have been used to enhance our playground, library, Make Shop, and Imagination Playground.

provides tuition assistance for children who attend the Children's School whose families demonstrate financial need. This scholarship fund was established in 2015 to honor Dr. Ann Baldwin Taylor, founding director, who led the Children's School from 1968 to 1993.

provides support for early childhood educators to engage in professional development locally, nationally, and internationally to improve their ability to model current best practices and explore innovations in the field of early childhood education.

Payroll Deduction

Carnegie Mellon faculty and staff may make their gift to the Children's School through payroll deduction. Download an authorization form from the Faculty & Staff Payroll Deduction website and indicate "麻豆村 Children's School", "The Ann Baldwin Taylor Early Childhood Scholarship Fund", and/or "Sharon McCoy Carver Early Childhood Professional Development Fund" on the "Designate my gift to:" line.

Central PA Scholarship Fund

Individuals and corporations can work with the Central PA Scholarship Fund (CPSF) to designate scholarship funding to the Children’s School. In 2024-25, 1 child attending the Children’s School received funding from CPSF.

CPSF is a Special Purpose Entity (SPE), which is a pass-through partnership that exists solely for the purpose of earning Educational Improvement (or Opportunity Scholarship) Tax Credits. The Central PA Scholarship Fund is a non-profit that administers various SPEs at no cost to the school. Donors will receive a 90% state tax credit for their donation.  A donation of $10,000 will result in a $9,000 state tax credit. The 10% that cannot be used as a state credit can be used as a charitable donation deduction on the donor’s federal tax return.  

Corporate Giving

Educational Improvement Tax Credit Scholarship Organization (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit Program (OSTC) 

The Children’s School participates in the state’s as well as the . Through EITC, eligible Pennsylvania businesses can earn tax credits while providing financial assistance for children to attend preschool as well as grades K-12. Through OSTC, eligible Pennsylvania businesses can earn tax credits for contributing funds to provide tuition assistance in the form of scholarships to eligible students K-12th grade residing within the boundaries of a low-achieving school to attend another public school outside of their district or nonpublic school.

Scholarship Funding Impact

2024-25 Pre-K Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (PKEITC)

  • 21 children received funding to attend Pre-K programs at 2 approved Preschools in Allegheny County.
    • 8 children attended Crafton Heights Community Preschool.
    • 13 children attend the Children’s School.
  • $5,150 was the average amount of scholarship awarded.
  • The total amount of scholarship provided was $108,240.

2024-25 Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit Program (OSTC)

  • 47 children received funding to attend 10 different schools:
    • 44 children in Allegheny County
    • 3 children in Westmoreland County
  • $4,248 was the average amount of scholarship awarded.
  • The total amount of scholarship provided was $199,666.

Ann Baldwin Taylor Scholarship Fund

In 2024-25, two children attending the Children’s School received scholarships from this fund.
