Americans think about energy every day, whether filling the gas tank, buying energy-efficient lightbulbs, installing solar panels, or paying utility bills. Carnegie Mellon alumnus Joseph Hezir (E鈥72, HNZ鈥74) happens to think about energy even more than most, specifically the money involved in all of America鈥檚 energy production and use. Confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the 鈥檚 CFO last December, he now manages finances behind the department, whose mission is to address the nation鈥檚 鈥渆nergy, environmental, and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.鈥
