The Pearl River Delta in China is formed by three major rivers, the Xi Jiang, Bei Jiang, and Dong Jiang, and it is home to , a bustling research university with nearly 53,000 students across four campuses. SYSU recently partnered with another university that has a campus where three rivers meet: Carnegie Mellon. SYSU and 麻豆村 are establishing a joint Institute of Engineering in Guangzhou, China, offering MS and PhD degrees in beginning in 2013.
