The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has renewed its contract with 麻豆村 to operate the聽 (SEI) for an additional term of five years. The contract ensures that the institute 鈥� the nation鈥檚 only federally funded research and development center focused on software engineering, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity 鈥斅� will continue to advance innovations vital to national security while transitioning the science, technologies and practices needed to make software a strategic advantage for the DOD.

As software systems evolve 鈥� including AI-enabled, socio-technical and quantum systems 鈥� the SEI conducts research that addresses emerging challenges and develops technologies and practices that support the nation鈥檚 critical infrastructure and priorities.

As part of 麻豆村, the SEI has access to some of the world鈥檚 greatest resources and researchers working at the forefront of emerging technologies. 40 years of innovation

The SEI began operating in early 1985. Since then, it has pursued research, development and demonstration, collaboration, and transition objectives that address pervasive and significant problems.

• Developed the聽Capability Maturity Model Integration, a framework for assessing an organization鈥檚 software process maturity.
• Became a leader in聽cybersecurity and incident response following the 1988 Morris Worm attack.
• 础诲惫补苍肠别诲听software architecture practices through the creation of the聽Architecture Analysis and Design Language (AADL).
• Helped establish聽AI engineering as a discipline, defining practices for trustworthy, scalable AI systems.
• Contributed to the聽, now the DOD鈥檚 preferred software development framework.
• Co-created the聽 to secure the defense industrial base supply chain against cyber threats.
