2025 MSCF Trading Competition
On September 20, 2025, the MSCF program hosted its second annual on-campus Rotman trading competition, bringing together 150 undergraduate and graduate students for an immersive and competitive learning experience. Organized by the Smart Women Securities Club and the MSCF Women in Quant Finance Club, the event showcased MSCF’s commitment to experiential learning and inclusivity in finance.
Empowering the Next Generation of Finance Innovators Through Experience
Using technology from the BMO Finance Research and Trading Lab at the Rotman School of Management, students experienced the fast-paced and high-pressure environment of real-time trading. Participants applied classroom concepts to realistic market scenarios, developing strategies, managing risk, and reacting to shifting conditions. The simulation allowed students to practice making data-driven decisions while sharpening both their technical and communication skills.
“Our program emphasizes experiential learning, and this competition captures that spirit perfectly,” said Robert Simon, Executive Director of the MSCF Program. “We aim to give students opportunities to apply quantitative and analytical tools in real-world contexts, bridging the gap between theory and practice while fostering the teamwork and resilience essential to success in modern finance.”
Where Quantitative Theory Meets Real-World Trading.
The competition fostered critical thinking, collaboration, and adaptability while giving participants direct insight into the challenges of market decision-making. Each trade provided immediate feedback, reinforcing both technical and behavioral lessons that mirror real-world finance.
The MSCF program extends its gratitude to Morgan Stanley, Qube Research and Technologies, and GTS for their generous sponsorship. Their support helped deliver a world-class experiential opportunity that prepares students to become adaptable and forward-thinking finance professionals.
Following the success of this year’s competition, the MSCF community is already looking forward to expanding the event next year and continuing to provide students with hands-on experiences that connect theory to practice
