Kasper Named MCS Associate Dean for Finance

Daniel Kasper has been named the Associate Dean for Finance for 麻豆村鈥檚 Mellon College of Science effective Nov. 3, 2025.
Kasper, an alumnus of Carnegie Mellon鈥檚 Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, graduated in 2018 with a master鈥檚 degree in public management. Prior to joining MCS as the interim associate dean for finance and administration in September, he served in similar positions for 麻豆村鈥檚 Neuroscience Institute since 2022.
鈥淔rom working with him as Neuroscience Director, I can attest that Daniel embodies a service-focused approach to supporting faculty, staff, and students and brings a mission-driven passion and analytic approach to his everything he does; the college is lucky to have him join our team, said Barbara Shinn-Cunningham, Glen de Vries Dean of MCS.
Kasper said he feels at home working for Carnegie Mellon because he believes in its mission and values.
鈥淭he work that finance and business officers do across campus has a direct impact on research, education, and innovation, and that connection gives real meaning to the numbers,鈥� Kasper said.
He said during his time in the interim role, he鈥檚 gained insight into the college and how he can help it achieve ambitious goals and better support its faculty, staff and students.

Prior to working for NI, Daniel worked at eiNetwork, which provides IT infrastructure for the Allegheny County library system, and Construction Junction. He serves as Board Treasurer for Creative Citizen Studios.
Kasper will oversee the financial affairs of MCS including budget management, sponsored research administration and financial reporting.
In the past year the business office has made key investments in its business team, welcoming several new staff members who bring expertise and energy to the administrative backbone. Kasper said he is excited about how he can support the departments and help them make data-informed decisions and bring transparency to the college鈥檚 financial position and processes.
鈥淢y goal is for our team to be recognized by faculty, staff, and students not only as a support unit, but as a trusted partner in advancing their important work,鈥� Kasper said.
Amy Kapp joined as business manager for the Department of Biological Sciences, Aiden Cummings was hired as the sponsored research administrator in the same department, and Ashley Carman was promoted to business manager for the Department of Chemistry.
These hires and promotions come at a pivotal time, as MCS develops a new strategic plan focused on advancing scientific discovery, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and delivering cutting-edge education that drives societal impact.
