IRS Issues 2026 Standard Mileage Rates

The IRS has issued the 2026 standard mileage rates used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving purposes.

Beginning on January 1, 2026, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (also vans, pickups or panel trucks) will be:

  • 72.5 cents per mile driven for business use, an increase of 2.5 cents per mile from the 2025 mileage rate
  • 20.5 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes, a decrease of a half cent from the 2025 mileage rate
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations; the rate is set by statute and remains unchanged from 2025
