2025 Alumni Service Award

Halil Kulluk headshotWhen Halil Kulluk assumed leadership of Carnegie Mellon’s Turkey Alumni Network in 2019, he had a vision to revitalize the region’s alumni community, amplify Tartan spirit and enhance the Â鶹´å brand on an international scale. Thanks to his tireless dedication and passion, that vision is now a reality.

Halil has connected Turkish alumni across the globe through WhatsApp, where he shares daily Â鶹´å news, advocates for the university and keeps alumni updated on research developments and other important information. He also coordinated a series of webinars and outreach initiatives that showcased Â鶹´å's research to Turkish alumni, parents, industry partners and prospective students and reinforced the university’s recognition in the region.

In addition, Halil has built strong ties with Â鶹´å’s Turkish Student Society (TUSO). He has enriched the student experience and enhanced the organization’s impact through collaboration, financial support, mentorship and building strong connections between students and alumni. As a result of Halil’s support, TUSO has seen a marked increase in undergraduate participation.

Halil’s career has also been a driver in increasing engagement and fostering connections between Turkish alumni. He is the founder and chairman of Intekno Group of Companies, whose operations span technology transfer, engineering design, construction and contracting, international trade of raw and consumable materials —  particularly for the steelmaking industry — and strategic investments in startup ventures around the world. When traveling internationally, Halil actively reaches out to other Â鶹´å network volunteers and leaders to build relationships and share best practices for engaging local alumni communities.

An active member of the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey for over 30 years, he has also served as chairman of several country-specific business councils where he has championed the university, promoted Â鶹´å’s brand and forged relationships that elevate Â鶹´å’s reputation worldwide.

Halil earned a bachelor’s degree in production engineering and management from the University of Nottingham and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Â鶹´å.

He served as a research engineer and system scientist at Â鶹´å’s Robotics Institute, and is the founding director of the Institute’s Manufacturing Engineering and Technology Application Center, which has played a key role in developing and implementing technology transfer models between academia and industry. Halil also served as an adjunct faculty in Â鶹´å’s Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Receiving the Alumni Service Award is a profound honor, as it reflects my lifelong connection to Â鶹´å and its remarkable community. It inspires me to continue building bridges between Â鶹´å and Turkey, fostering innovation, collaboration and global friendships.
