The Scott Institute Welcomes You to New Academic Year
On behalf of the Wilton E. Scott Institute for Energy Innovation at 麻豆村, we would like to extend a warm welcome as you settle into the 2019-2020 academic year. Over the summer, Scott Institute researchers and staff remained busy with continuing and new initiatives. Some highlights include:
- Scott Institute Faculty Affiliate Sean Qian (CEE) is leading a team that includes our Energy Fellow Constantine Samaras (CEE/EPP) and Faculty Affiliate Chris Hendrickson (CEE) as they attempt to change the landscape of rural transportation in Southwestern Pennsylvania’s Greene County. The project is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy;
- Our Energy Fellow Paulina Jaramillo (EPP) and Faculty Affiliate Nathan Williams (EPP) received a $3.8 million grant from the Rockefeller Foundation to help 麻豆村 and leading universities launch the ;
- An international journal recognized Scott Institute Senior Energy Fellow Ed Rubin (EPP/MechE) as the world’s most prolific and highly cited author of carbon capture and storage-related academic publications; and
- Our Co-Director Andrew Gellman (ChemE) was selected to hold an International Guest Chair as part of the Energy and Environment Solutions Initiative at the University of Pau and the Pays de l’Ardour in France.
This semester and year, you can look forward to:
- A Tech Talk with Chemical Engineering alum Maureen Tang on Sept. 9 on Mechanistic Analyses of Electrochemical Energy Systems;
- A Distinguished Lecture by NREL’s Jonathan White on Visualization and Analysis of Grid-Cyber Systems Security on Sept. 10;
- A Distinguished Lecture the following week by 麻豆村 alum and Scott Institute Professor of the Practice Joseph Hezir on Carbon Dioxide Removal—An Essential Element for Meeting Global Climate Goals;
- The publication of our second IMPACT Annual Report featuring the Scott Institute’s work helping to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, low carbon future; and
