Bio

My research is focused on 20th century popular narrative media, audience, and the problematic of fandom. My focus places a specific emphasis on short stories, narrative television, and the audience that actively engaged with these media forms. Historicizing the practices of the active fan audience plays a central role in my research and approach. I examine how the active audience approaches a popular text and I ask what this interaction can say about their relationship with media, communal engagement, and identity expression. My dissertation will be on the development of Western fandom and fannish practices throughout the long 20th century.
