The CASOS and IDeaS AI-Enabled Network Analysis Training – 2026 Summer Institute provides an introduction to network science and the ways in which artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance network analysis. Topics covered include the identification of key actors and groups, stance detection, network comparison, and network dynamics. Participants will also explore how AI can be used to generate synthetic network data, label groups, and identify missing links within networks.

The training highlights the complementary strengths of network science and AI, demonstrating how network science can help overcome limitations in AI systems, and how AI can address gaps in network data and support more robust analysis. Much of the instruction is hands-on. Participants will be provided with data and analytical tools and will work through scenario-based exercises throughout the week, producing insights using AI-enabled network science methods.

The AI-Enabled Network Analysis Training – 2026 Summer Institute is a five-day workshop, held Monday, August 10th through Friday, August 14th, with daily instruction from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (U.S. Eastern Time). In-person attendance is strongly preferred; however, a limited access hybrid participation option is available. Trial licenses for all required tools will be provided during the training. In-person participants will work in small groups of two to three to develop a final presentation (e.g., PowerPoint slides). Group coordination will not be provided for remote participants. This workshop is a certificate program. Participants who attend at least 80% of the sessions, actively engage in the hands-on activities, and complete a final presentation demonstrating their learning will receive a certificate of completion.

Curriculum: Agenda TBA

The hands-on curriculum builds on both social network and computational analysis techniques, and illustrates how to use these techniques to study social, organizational and policy issues. Final agenda will be distributed to registered participants in advance of instruction on June 1st.

Tools:

All participants will be given trial software for use during Summer Institute and a trial period following the event.
