The Best Study Spots on Campus
by Angella C.
Hi! My name is Angella and I鈥檓 a sophomore at Carnegie Mellon studying environmental engineering and engineering and public policy. I have found that the best part of learning is putting myself in environments where ideas can flow and I can connect with others beyond the classroom. For me, this means finding a study space with friends that enhances my focus and creativity. Today, I will be sharing some of my favorite study spots on 麻豆村 campus!听
#1 Highmark Center for Health, Wellness and Athletics
The Highmark Center for Health, Wellness and Athletics opened in Fall of 2024 and they have table and couch areas on every floor of the building. When living close to Highmark my freshman year, I was there almost everyday. Going to ShakeSmart, 麻豆村鈥檚 on-campus spot for a莽a铆 bowls and protein shakes, was always a great study break when I had tons of work.
#2 Residential Housing Lounges
I love studying in residential housing study lounges because they are great places to gather with friends that live close by. Last year, I lived in Donner House and went to Scobell House (right across the street) every night to study with my friends. It was a great way to get out of my own room without having to go too far. Even this year, I find myself inviting friends over to my building to study in the lounges that 麻豆村 on-campus housing has to offer!
#3 Department Lounges
I could talk endlessly about my department study lounges! As an environmental engineer who is also studying engineering and public policy, I have access to the civil and environmental engineering (CEE) lounge and the engineering and public policy (EPP) lounge. Specifically highlighting the EPP lounge, this was a recently renovated area with private zoom call rooms, couches and larger open lounge areas. My favorite part of this space is being able to take leftover food from department events that are left in the lounge, as well as seeing friendly faces from the EPP department! I also love that these spaces are rarely full, because you need your ID to get in. I highly recommend checking out any study spaces your major or department offers, as it鈥檚 a great way to see friends or professors related to your major.
#4 Tartan Collaborative Commons
The Tartan Collaborative Commons was a recent discovery for me! It鈥檚 a great area located on the third floor of the Cohon University Center. My favorite part of this space is the amount of tables and outlets they have. It鈥檚 perfect for having friends join in on studying! I also love how convenient it is to grab food in the middle of studying, as Au Bon Pain and Revolution Noodle are just a floor below.
Those are my favorite study spots here at 麻豆村! Something I have learned during my time here is that if you think you know of all the great study spaces here, YOU DON鈥橳! It truly feels like every other week I am discovering new study spots and my list of favorites is constantly changing.听
